Chaired by Prof. Dr. Jörg Müller-Lietzkow, President of Hafencity University Hamburg, the jury of the »XXV. Innovationspreis Thüringen 2022« met. The 19-member jury of experts from business and science evaluated the applications in the four categories »Tradition & Future«, »Industry & Material«, »Digital & Media« and »Light & Life«. In addition, there is a special prize that honors a young innovative company. A total of 100,000 euros in prize money was awarded.

The jury selected 20 entries for the longlist. The three best developments per category were nominated and then the winners of each category were chosen. The winners will be announced and honored at the award ceremony on November 30, 2022 in the Weimarhalle.

This year, 62 applications were submitted for the prize, which is jointly offered by the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society, the Foundation for Technology, Innovation and Research Thuringia (STIFT), TÜV Thüringen e. V. and the Ernst Abbe Foundation. In its evaluation, the jury was primarily interested in the degree of innovation, entrepreneurial performance, functionality, practical value and economic success of the entries.

»We are delighted that Thuringia’s companies and research institutions have entered the competition despite the current challenging situation! In doing so, they have demonstrated the high performance and innovative strength of Thuringia as a location for business and innovation,« said Dr. Sven Günther, member of the STIFT Executive Board.

Jury chairman Prof. Dr. Jörg Müller-Lietzkow also draws a positive conclusion: »In complex times, the courage to innovate, the willingness to start up, the acceptance of responsibility in companies is the spark of economic hope. The Thuringia Innovation Award reignites this every year and is therefore an important component of the Free State’s innovation ecology. Although the number of submissions has decreased slightly this year, the quality of the entries submitted can be considered very high, even in comparison with previous years. Therefore, it was easy for the jury to award prizes at the highest level. Let us surprise you!«
