FabuLens GmbH is a subsidiary of the German Federal Agency for Leap Innovations (SPRIN‑D). In cooperation with mcd – modern camera designs GmbH, it is developing the innovative UV replication-based LENSCURE™ manufacturing process for the production of cost-effective and high-precision imaging optics made of polymer. These are used in very large quantities, e.g. in smartphone camera modules, optical sensor technology, automobiles or disposable endoscopy. The technology used to manufacture small aspherical lenses or lenses made from them combines the advantages of optical precision injection molding with the materials and scaling possibilities of wafer-level optics derived from semiconductor manufacturing and thus has the potential to bring a key technology of digital imaging back to Germany and thus sustainably strengthen Germany as a location for innovation. FabuLens‹ technology helps to unbundle global supply chains, reduce dependencies on international suppliers and increase the resilience of entire industries. Due to the high level of complexity, FabuLens focuses its development activities exclusively on applications in high-resolution smartphone camera modules, while mcd serves all markets from low to high resolutions and from small to large quantities.
