News › JENOPTIK • Topping-out ceremony for the new high-tech fab in Dresden
The construction of the new Jenoptik fab in “Silicon Saxony” is progressing according to plan.
Exactly one year after the groundbreaking ceremony, Jenoptik celebrated the topping-out ceremony for its new high-tech factory in Dresden today. In addition to the parties involved in the construction, Jenoptik employees and neighboring companies from the industrial park were also present.
On behalf of the entire Jenoptik management, Dr. Stefan Traeger, CEO of JENOPTIK AG, thanked all those involved in the construction work for the speedy completion of the project under sometimes challenging conditions and once again emphasized the importance of the new fab within Jenoptik’s global production network. In future, the high-tech fab will manufacture micro-optics and sensors, which will mainly be used in systems for semiconductor lithography. “Dresden is becoming a main location for our micro-optics activities, and we are integrated into the excellent network of the semiconductor industry in Saxony, which is constantly growing,” says Stefan Traeger.
The photonics group Jenoptik is investing in Dresden in a new production facility for micro-optics and sensors, primarily for the semiconductor equipment industry. The high-tech factory will not only meet precise manufacturing conditions, but also high environmental standards. Jenoptik aims to meet the “KfW 40 Standard” and the “LEED Gold Standard Certification”, currently the most comprehensive and stringent building criteria in terms of sustainability.
As construction progresses, the completion of the building sections is planned for the first half of 2024. This will be followed by the interior work in the second half of 2024. Production in the new factory is scheduled to start at the beginning of 2025.
Jenoptik has been active in Dresden, Germany since 2007 and currently employs more than 90 staff on site. With the new production facility, Jenoptik will consolidate manufacturing in Dresden, which is currently spread across several smaller external locations. The photonics group is creating additional high-quality jobs and thus intends to increase its local workforce to a total of more than 120 employees. In addition to Dresden, Jenoptik also manufactures high-precision and micro-optics at the Thuringian sites in Jena and Triptis (polymer optics), in Heerbrugg, Switzerland, as well as in Jupiter, Florida and Huntsville, Alabama in the USA.
Jenoptik is currently investing in the expansion of capacities at its production sites worldwide. For example, the new medical technology site in Berlin was opened in June 2023.
Information about the Dresden fab can be found on the company’s website. Pictures of the current construction work and the topping-out ceremony can be downloaded from our image database, “Locations” gallery. More images will be added throughout the day.
