News › After the state elections – OptoNet e.V. calls for government to be formed quickly
Jena, September 5, 2024 – The OptoNet e.V. cluster association, which represents the Thuringian photonics industry, is calling for the swift formation of a coalition and government a few days after the state elections.
»After a long and sometimes polarizing election campaign, Thuringia needs responsible parties to agree on a government capable of acting as quickly as possible and then agree on constructive policies on the topics of business and business development, education, skilled workers and digitalization,« emphasizes Dr Jörg Wagner, Chairman of the Board of OptoNet e.V.
In view of the tense economic situation in many companies, the association is calling for quick decisions in order to create stable conditions and ensure reliable framework conditions for investments.
The photonics industry, which makes a significant contribution to Thuringia’s economic strength with around 200 companies and just under 20,000 employees, has a great interest in effective political contacts.
»The primary goal for the next five years must be to drive forward the industrial transformation and at the same time ensure international competitiveness,« explains Dr. Wagner.
Special attention must be paid to combating the shortage of skilled workers, which is hitting Thuringia particularly hard due to demographic change.

The recruitment of international specialists and an open-minded climate remain of central importance for OptoNet e.V. and the companies and research institutions in the industry.
The photonics industry is therefore fully committed to the goals of openness to the world and sees itself as a committed partner of the new state government in order to jointly provide positive impetus for the future of Bavaria.
