News › TRUMPF expands its business with ultrashort pulse lasers for scientific and industrial applications
High-tech company TRUMPF has acquired an 80 percent stake in Active Fiber Systems GmbH (AFS), a company based in Jena, Germany, that specializes in fiber lasers.
AFS develops and manufactures ultrashort-pulse laser systems and fiber-laser systems used primarily in science and research. In addition to basic research, its
areas of application include the generation of extremely short-wavelength light with high coherence, biomedical imaging and material processing.
As a majority stakeholder in AFS, TRUMPF hopes to leverage synergies in the research and further development of its existing ultrashort-pulse laser portfolio
and to expand its business in this growing field.
Founded in Jena in 2009, Active Fiber Systems has a workforce of 37 employees. TRUMPF plans to retain the location in Jena and build on the research-driven company’s independent standing even after the takeover as majority stakeholder. Both parties have agreed not to disclose details about the transaction.
