Zeiss SMT optics are used world­wide for chip manu­fac­tu­ring. The pre­cis­ion of len­ses and mir­rors based on sur­face inter­fe­ro­me­try with pico­me­ter accu­racy. The talk pro­vi­des insight into the challenges.

#2 Abbe’s Theory of Ima­ging and its applications

Carl Zeiss asked Ernst Abbe to design a supe­rior lens – but the first time he fai­led. His fail­ure led to a deeper under­stan­ding of opti­cal reso­lu­tion. In this talk we want to briefly review his theory and how it is applied to the design of high end opti­cal systems.
